The RETLAMI-SEE project invites researchers across the social sciences and humanities at the University of Banja Luka to join the workshop “Publishing in Peer-Reviewed Journals”, taking place 19–20 March 2026 at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Banja Luka.
This workshop offers a rare opportunity for a face-to-face exchange with experienced journal editors from the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (IOS), Regensburg. The sessions will be led by Sabine Rutar (managing editor of the Comparative Southeast European Studies) and Katharina Kucher (managing editor of the East European History / Jahrbücher für Geschichte Osteuropas).
Across two days, participants will gain practical insight into how peer-reviewed journals work—editorial policies, peer review, and publication strategies—followed by hands-on training focused on improving research questions and polishing abstracts. The programme includes an editors’ session on publication strategies, a workshop segment on formulating strong research questions, and a full second-day practical block dedicated to rewriting, refining, and discussing participants’ abstracts, with the aim of moving towards a successful manuscript submission.
