Led by Goran Musić and Rory Archer (RECET, University of Vienna), this 90-minute training is offered to researchers from the humanities and social sciences at doctoral and postdoctoral level who wish to familiarise themselves with research in historical archives. The online event on Thursday 20th February at 13:00, held in English and based on the researchers’ practical experience in the field, examines introductory principles of archival research including planning visits, accessing finding aids, and locating and then analysing sources pertaining to labour and migration from and in Southeast Europe.

Research Data Management and Open Science

As part of the RETLAMI-SEE project, on June 2, 2025, Tillmann Tegeler and Hans Bauer from the library department of IOS Regensburg presented the capabilities of academic libraries in supporting open science and research data management. The training addresses researchers in the social sciences and humanities, and it is held in English.

Integrating Gender Dimension in Research on Migration & Labour

Led by Dr. Jovana Mihajlović Trbovc (ZRC SAZU), this two-hour session shows why a gender perspective is essential across all stages of research and how to apply it in practice. Using examples from political science, labour and migration studies, it covers gender-sensitive ethnography, intersectionality and research ethics, with practical exercises for your projects. Based on the Toolkit for Integrating Gender-Sensitive Approach into Research and Teaching (Mihajlović Trbovc & Hofman, 2015).
The workshop was held on 23 October 2025, and in English.

Mirjana Damjenić Bratić, & Dalibor Savić. (2025). METODOLOŠKI IZAZOVI VIZUALIZACIJE PODATAKA U STUDIJAMA MIGRACIJA: KA INTEGRACIJI TEHNIČKIH RJEŠENJA I ETIČKE ODGOVORNOSTI. ГОДИШЊАК ЗА СОЦИОЛОГИЈУ, 21(2), 11–32.

Contemporary migration research increasingly relies on visual data representations that enable deeper understanding of complex social and spatial patterns of population movement. However, the technical solutions that enable visualization – from traditional statistical charts to interactive digital platforms – simultaneously raise numerous epistemological and ethical questions, often with negative implications for migrants. In this context, this paper examines the possibilities of integrating technical solutions and ethical responsibility in the process of visualizing migration data. Particular emphasis is placed on understanding how dominant visual conventions with implicit political meanings, a kind of visualization regimes, shape the perception of migration processes and thereby (re)produce social risks for migrants. Through analysis of relevant literature and examples of good practice, such as data feminism, data humanism, and ethical visualization workflow, the paper highlights existing methodological procedures that enable the connection of technical innovations and ethical principles of humanistic and social research, whereby visualization becomes a tool not only for analysis and communication, but also for responsible interpretation of migration phenomena.
